Upscale retailer Johns Sims is closing its doors

John Sims, an upscale women's dress shop that has been a pillar of the Pikesville retail scene for several decades, is fading into history.

Sylvia Weiner, the store's manager, said yesterday that the store would begin holding a going-out-of-business sale tomorrow. She referred any further questions to the owner, developer Murray L. Wolman, who did not return calls yesterday.

The store at 1636 Reisterstown Road has been holding a sale in recent weeks, with the price of most of the dwindling inventory cut 50 percent or more.

Linda Scherr, the owner of Rococo, another fashionable women's clothing store in Pikesville, called the closing "very, very sad."

"It's one of the finest women's clothing stores in town," she said.
