Fireworks fizzled, but July 4th events a hit

July 12, 1992

While the Independence Day fireworks in Bel Air fizzled, the events staged that day -- from the Frog Jumping Contest to the Bicycle Rodeo -- were a big hit.

Dozens of children and adults took part in the off-beat and fun events, many of which were staged on the grounds of Bel Air High School. The annual parade was also a hit with spectators, drawing about 50,000, said organizers.
