July 12, 1992

A street man convicted of assaulting an elderly neighbor in April 1990 has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Ray Edward Bright, 22, was sentenced in Harford Circuit Court by Judge William O. Carr for one count of assault with intent to maim, following a three-day jury trial in May.

Bright, whose nickname is Bunky, attacked the woman, now 76, in her home in the 4700 block of Rocks Road in Street on April 27, 1990, according to testimony.

The victim testified that Bright had been a longtime friend of her family. She testified that he grabbed her by the throat and choked her.

The judge sentenced Bright to 10 years in prison, but suspended eight years of the sentence.
