Durbin completes basic

Airman Dean J. Durbin, son of Sandra J. Durbin and Dennis J. Durbin, both of Woodbine, has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Airman Durbin is a 1990 graduate of Glenelg High School.

Lincoln commissioned

Marine 2nd Lt. John T. Lincoln, son of John T. Lincoln of Ellicott City and Emily A. Lincoln of Columbia, was commissioned to his present rank after graduating from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program.

Lieutenant Lincoln is a 1988 graduate of Wilde Lake High School.

Shanks out of basic

Marine Pvt. Matthew M. Shanks, son of Michael L. and Elaine B. Shanks of Columbia, has completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

A 1991 graduate of Hammond High School, Private Shanks joined the Marines in January 1992.

Belmone on Saratoga

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory W. Belmone, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Belmone of Jessup, has reported for duty aboard the USS Saratoga. An aircraft carrier home ported in Mayport, Fla., the Saratoga will spend six months leading a 10-ship battle group through the Mediterranean Sea.

Petty Officer Belmone joined the Navy in July 1978.

Schneider gets medal

Marine Cpl. Richard K. Schneider, son of Richard P. and Muriel R. Schneider of Ellicott City, recently received the Navy Achievement Medal. Corporal Schneider was cited for superior duty performance by the 1st Battalion at Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

The 1988 graduate of Mount Hebron High School entered the Marine Corps in February 1990.

Ellis completes training

Air National Guard Airman Ronald R. Ellis, son of Gilbert S. Ellis of Columbia, and Anula Ellis of Aurora, Ohio, recently graduated from the aerospace propulsion specialist (turboprop) course at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill.

Airman Ellis learned to perform maintenance and repair work on hydraulically operated propellers.

Fennell to new post

Marine Capt. David A. Fennell, son of Bettye J. and Frank F. Fennell of Columbia, is now serving with the On-site Inspection Agency (OSIA) at Washington Dulles International Airport, Chantilly Va.

A Defense Department agency, OSIA was established in 1988 to carryout the inspection and monitoring requirements of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). OSIA teams inspect facilities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (formerly the Soviet Union), Czechoslovakia and Germany.

Captain Fennell joined the Marines in June 1982 after graduating from Centennial High School. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1987.

Guidice promoted

Air Force Airman 1st Class Dennis E. Guidice, son of Dennis E. Guidice Sr. of Ellicott City, was recently promoted to his present rank at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., where he serves as an airlift aircraft maintenance specialist.

Airman Guidice is a 1990 graduate of Harford Vocational Technical High School in Bel Air.

Krywacki in motors

Marine Pvt. Thomas J. Krywacki, son of Thomas J. Krywacki of Laurel, is a recent graduate of the Motor Transport School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. In addition to learning to drive the M-151 Jeep and the new M-293 automatic five-ton truck, Private Krywacki studied convoy traveling, driving during a blackout and rough terrain driving.

He joined the Marine Corps in October 1991.

Reich gets wings

Army Warrant Officer Clark E. Reich, son of Bruno W. Reich of Dayton, was appointed to his present rank after completing the rotary wing aviator course at Fort Rucker, Ala.

Mr. Riech received training in leadership, helicopter flying techniques and instrument flying.

Riley to new post

Marine Sgt. Sean P. Riley, son of Wina and Jean Riley of Woodbine, recently reported for duty with Headquarters Battalion, Henderson Hall, Va.

Sergeant Riley joined the Marine Corps in October 1987 after graduating from Glenelg High School.

Skarbek gets wings

Navy Ensign James F. Skarbek, son of Jacqueline and James F. Skarbek Jr. of Ellicott City, has received his "wings of gold" after completing the 18-month Naval Flight Officer Course at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Fla.

A 1985 graduate of Mount Hebron High School, Ensign Skarbek joined the Navy in July 1990 after receiving a degree from the University of Maryland.

Smith in Japan

Marine Pfc. Mjuaji A. Smith, son of William H. Smith of Columbia, has reported for duty with the 9th Motor Transport Battalion, Okinawa, Japan.

The 1990 graduate of Howard High School joined the Marines in June 1991.

Manyette in avionics

Navy Airman Apprentice Christopher J. Manyette, son of Richard G. and Janet L. Manyette of Mount Airy, has graduated from the Basic Avionics Technician Course at Millington Naval Air Station, Tenn.

A 1991 graduate of South Carroll High School in Sykesville, Airman Manyette joined the Navy in June 1991.
