There's plenty of youth baseball on tap as district tournaments begin this week in the Little League, Babe Ruth and Bambino programs.

Two teams will represent Carroll in the eight-team, double-elimination District II Little League tournament starting on Monday.

Westminster is at Brunswick and East Frederick visits Thurmont on the tournament's first day, while Taneytown will be at Frederick American and Frederick National will host Emmitsburg on Tuesday. Home teams will be designated by a coin toss before each game.

The tournament will run through July 24 with all games starting at 6 p.m.

The winner will next play the District I champs in a best-of-three series for sectional title starting on July 30 at Brunswick.

The Babe Ruth district tournament began yesterday at Landon Burns Park in Westminster with Finksburg, Westminster and North Carroll looking to qualify for the state tournament in the 13 and 15 age groups.

North Carroll received a first-round bye in both age groups and will face the winner of yesterday's Finksburg-Westminster contest today. The double-elimination tournament will continue until only one team remains.

The 14, 16 and 16-18 age groups didn't need a district tournament. Westminster has the only 14-year-old team, and the 16 and 16-18 teams will be selected from the county-wide 16-18 Babe Ruth League. Those three teams automatically advance to the state tournament later this month.

Finksburg and Mount Airy are representing Carroll in the state Bambino tournament which began yesterday in Glade Valley. Yesterday's results were not available at press time.
