Matthew D. Belt Accounting student

Services for Matthew D. Belt, an accounting student and part-time bartender, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills.

Mr. Belt, who was 24 and lived on Estate Road in Reisterstown, drowned Saturday while swimming in Liberty Reservoir.

He worked as a bartender at Jilly's in Pikesville and was studying accounting at Catonsville Community College, where he was a straight-A student.

Born in Newport News, Va., he was reared in Reisterstown and was a 1985 graduate of Franklin High School.

He served in the Navy from 1985 until 1989, graduating from the Navy's Nuclear Power School. He was an electronics technician and attained the rank of petty officer third class.

Mr. Belt was a weight lifter and also played softball.

Survivors include his parents, George D. and Barbara Hope Belt; a sister, Beverly H. Belt; and two brothers, George W. and Glenn D. Belt. All are of Reisterstown. He is also survived by his grandmother, Emma R. Belt of Glyndon.
