Baltimore City

MAIMING: Southwestern District -- Police arrested a man Saturday night after a firework he threw to the ground ignited and burned a small child who was nearby. Police said Philip Fowler, of the 200 block of Harmison St., reportedly threw a concussion-type of firework to the pavement near his home about 9 p.m. Saturday when the device exploded and landed on the child, whose name was not released. Police said Mr. Fowler tore off the child's diaper to retrieve the burning device but not before the child sustained minor burns. Arrested later and charged with maiming, Mr. Fowler appeared before a District Court commissioner who ordered him held in lieu of $15,000.

ASSAULT: Southern District -- Robert Van Kirk reported he was walking in the 2300 block of Sidney Ave. in Westport about 7:30 p.m. yesterday when someone fired two shots at him. Police said neither bullet hit Mr. Van Kirk. Later, police made an arrest and were holding a suspect at the station pending charges. Police said they knew of no motive for the incident.

BURGLARY: Southern District -- A resident of the 4000 block of Fairhaven Ave. reported that someone broke into her home over the weekend and stole property valued at nearly $900.

ASSAULT/ARREST: Northwestern District -- Police reported a resident of the 2700 block of Longwood St. was attacked near his home over the weekend by a man armed with a baseball bat. Police said the victim, Donald Pymus, was not seriously injured and that a suspect in the incident was later arrested. Police said the suspect was being held at the station pending charges and a bail hearing before a district court commissioner.

THEFT/ARREST: Western District -- Police arrested a man and were holding him at the station pending theft charges. The occupant of a house in the 200 block of N. Fulton Ave. told police that a man she knows entered her home late Saturday night and stole a TV and VCR from her living room. Police said the property was valued at $600. Shortly after the theft, a suspect was arrested. It was not immediately known if the property was recovered.

THEFT: Western District -- A resident of the 2700 block of W. North Ave. reported that while his car was parked near his home late Saturday night someone broke into the vehicle and stole $300 in cash. Police said a woman the victim knows is being sought in the theft.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police reported two men, one armed with a handgun, accosted a resident of the 2300 block of W. Baltimore St. while he was in the 1800 block of N. Fulton Ave. early yesterday morning and demanded his money. Police said the victim complied, giving up more than $100 in cash to the gunman and his accomplice.

THEFT: Western District -- A resident of the 3400 block of Cedardale Road reported someone forced his way into his car over the weekend while it was parked in the 2600 block of Pennsylvania Ave. and stole stereo radio equipment valued at more than $1,000. Police said the theft occurred early yesterday morning and that entry was gained by breaking one of the car's windows.

ABDUCTION/ASSAULT: Western District -- A female resident of the 1800 block of Henneman Ave. reported she was forced into the car of a man she knows late Saturday night who drove her to a house in the 800 block of N. Mount St. There, the woman reported she was ordered into the house. While in the house, the woman later told police, the man assaulted her. Police said the woman fled and reported the incident. Police said the woman was not seriously injured and that the man was being sought. Police said the incident may have been domestic in nature.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 900 block of N. Payson St. reported he was in The Social Club in the 1900 block of Mosher St. about noon yesterday when he was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who robbed him of his wallet. Police said the gunman escaped with cash and property, all valued at $500.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police today were seeking a man who robbed a resident of the 1200 block of Braddish Ave. of her jewelry at gunpoint early yesterday morning. Police said the victim was in the 2300 block of Winchester St. about 12:30 a.m. yesterday when she was stopped by a gunman who ordered her to give up two gold necklaces valued at $200. Following the robbery, police said the gunman drove off in a brown Audi, headed south on North Bentalou Street.

ROBBERY: Western District -- A resident of the 2700 block of Ashburton St. reported he was in the 2800 block of W. North Ave. about 3:30 p.m. yesterday when he was accosted by a man armed with a handgun who robbed him of his portable radio. During the robbery, police said the victim sustained a slight injury to a thumb. Police said the radio was valued at $100.
