Tot lot graffiti under investigation

Police are investigating the painting of a swastika and Star of David near an Ellicott City tot lot.

Police found the spray-painting Wednesday afternoon at the 10000 block of Route 108 on a pathway near the Mayfield Avenue playground. Police interviewed nearby residents but could not find a suspect or a motive.

Man, 43, charged with prescription fraud

An Arbutus man has been charged with falsifying doctors' signatures to obtain prescription drugs and then selling them on the street.

John Douglas Kratz, 43, of the 1200 block of Greystone Road, was arrested Tuesday after police searched his house and found prescription drugs and street drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

He was charged with three counts of making or possessing forged prescriptions, four counts of obtaining a forged prescription and one count of theft.

Police say Mr. Kratz signed different doctors' names on prescription sheets and used them at pharmacies in Elkridge, Ellicott City and other areas around the state. Police say he prescribed himself the painkillers Tylox and Percocet and sold them on the street in Baltimore.

A search of his house turned up other prescription drugs as well as heroin, cocaine and marijuana, and other charges against him are pending, according to police.

Police became suspicious of him after an Elkridge pharmacist who refused to dispense him drugs called and reported him to police.

An officer on patrol spotted the teen-agers, ages 17 and 15, driving slowly with their lights off at a construction site at the 5100 block of Crystals Springs Drive in Ellicott City.

Police say the wire was used when pouring concrete and could have been sold as scrap metal.
