Prepare a patriotic pizza

PRIME TIME WITH KIDS

Your kids will enjoy getting involved in the food preparation for the Fourth of July when you put them in charge of dessert -- an easy-to-prepare "pizza" in red, white and blue.

Here's how to make a "dot-to-dot" fruit dessert pizza:

An adult should open one package of refrigerator sugar-cookie dough. Show your child how to press the dough into a round pizza-crust shape, on an ungreased pizza pan. An adult should bake the dough according to package instructions or until the edge of the dough is firm. Cool completely.

In a mixing bowl, stir together one 8-ounce package of low-calorie cream cheese (softened), 1 tablespoon milk and 1 teaspoon shredded orange or lemon peel.

Spread the cream cheese mixture over the baked cookie dough. With a toothpick, an adult should poke holes in the cream cheese to make a large star pattern. Let your child place rinsed and dried fresh blueberries dot-to-dot fashion on the pattern. Fill in the star with sliced fresh strawberries.

Just before serving, poke red, white and blue birthday candles in the fruit pizza.

The fruit pizza makes 16 small servings.
