Mary McMillian Teacher's assistant

Mary Coleman McMillian, a teacher's assistant in Baltimore public schools, died of cancer June 22 at Liberty Medical Center. She was 53.

Born in Society Hill, S.C., she was educated at Rosenwald High School there and was a star basketball player.

She came to Baltimore in 1975 and for about eight years worked in several centers operated by the city Department of Recreation and Parks. In 1983, she received an associate of arts from the Community College of Baltimore.

From 1985 until she retired in 1991, Ms. McMillian was a teacher's assistant.

She joined City Temple Baptist Church when she first arrived in Baltimore. For the last four years, she attended Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Marcus and Marion McMillian, both of Baltimore; four brothers, Cole L. Coleman and Berry Coleman, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., James Coleman of Baltimore and Robert Coleman of Columbia; and two sisters, Juanita Tyler of Baltimore and Willie Rose Snipes of Society Hill.

Services were held June 25 at Union Baptist Church.
