Marshall R. Welk Bricklayer

Marshall Randolph Welk, a longtime bricklayer, died of pneumonia June 25 at Baltimore County General Hospital. He was 83.

Mr. Welk, who in recent years had been a resident at several nursing homes, was born in Baltimore and lived most of his life in Hampden. At an early age, he became a bricklayer, working for several local firms.

From 1942 to 1945, he was an infantryman in the Army, serving in Africa, Italy and France. He attained the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Welk was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid Oriole fan and enjoyed fishing and big band music.

He is survived by a sister, Flora Isabelle Spangle of Towson.

Services were held Saturday at Hampden United Methodist Church.
