Checkpoint nets 16 drunken-driving arrests

Police arrested 16 people on drinking and driving charges at a sobriety checkpoint early Saturday morning.

Police also arrested four people on other charges, including possession of crack cocaine, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. One of those people was wanted by another jurisdiction for distribution of drugs.

Police and Mothers Against Drunk Driving members manned the checkpoint at U.S. 1 and Midway Shopping Center in North Laurel, where they checked more than 400 cars.

Teen-ager sought for exposing himself

Police are looking for a male teen-ager who indecently exposed himself at Centennial Park on Saturday afternoon.

Police said a dark-haired white male wearing a white T-shirt, black biking shorts and a baseball hat clapped his hands near the concession stand to get attention.

The teen-ager pulled his pants down and then left the area on a red bike, police said.

The suspect resembles the description of a suspect wanted for fondling two woman who were walking alone at the park last month, police said.

"We're not positive, but the descriptions are similar," said Detective Michael T. Sherman, a police spokesman. "We are still actively looking for a suspect."

Police are asking residents to report suspicious activities or people by calling 911. Police said they have received 34 reports of breaking and entering, mostly from ground windows. Many of the burglaries involve the stealing of televisions, VCRs, microwave ovens and jewelry.
