American League -- All-Star manager Tom Kelly of the Minnesota Twins named following as coaches: Kansas City Royals manager Hal McRae; New York Yankees manager Buck Showalter; and Twins coaches Rick Stelmaszek, Dick Such and Wayne Terwilliger. Kelly named Gene Monahan of the Yankees and Ned Bergert of the California Angels as trainers.

National League -- All-Star manager Bobby Cox of the Atlanta Braves named following as coaches: San Francisco Giants manager Roger Craig; St. Louis Cardinals manager Joe Torre; and Braves coaches Clarence Jones, Leo Mazzone and Jimy Williams. Cox named Bill Buhler of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Bob Day of the San Diego Padres as trainers.

Boston Red Sox -- Signed IF Steve Lyons. Placed OF Ellis Burks on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Thursday.

Chicago Cubs -- Optioned IF Gary Scott to Triple-A Iowa.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Activated 1B-OF Gary Redus from the DL. Optioned OF William Pennyfeather to Double-A Carolina.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Placed 2B Geronimo Pena (sore throwing shoulder) on the 15-day DL. Activated utility man Rex Hudler.

Seattle Mariners -- Named Chuck Armstrong president and chief operating officer. Acquired P Brian Fisher from the Reds for future considerations and assigned him to Triple-A Calgary. Transferred the option of P Mike Remlinger to Double-A Jacksonville. Designated IF Mike Blowers for assignment.

Houston Rockets -- Named Jim Boylen assistant coach and video coordinator and Joe Ash assistant coach.

Cal State Fullerton -- Named Deborah Ayres women's basketball coach.

Capitol -- Named Rick Sample, a three-year assistant, men's basketball coach.

Coppin State -- Named Clayton McNeill, vice president for student life, interim athletic director. McNeill played on Coppin's 1968 Potomac Intercollegiate Conference Tournament championship team.
