Man, 59, killed in road accident

A 59-year-old man was killed Friday morning when a hit-and-run driver rammed his bicycle from behind as he was riding along a South County road.

William Jackson, 59, of the 6100 block of Shady Side Road, was riding his bicycle north on Shady Side Road near Ira Lane at 12:40 a.m. when a car struck him and threw him to the ground, police said.

The driver of the car continued north on Shady Side Road, police said.

Investigators said the car may have been yellow and may have sustained damage to the front passenger side and hood.

Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

City couple charged in restaurant theft

Two Annapolis residents were charged with breaking and entering after police found stolen property in a pickup truck outside a vacant restaurant Thursday.

According to the report, officers responded to a burglar alarm at Caper's Restaurant in the 200 block of Revell Highway at 4 p.m. The restaurant closed in January.

When officers arrived, they found the pickup truck in the parking lot filled with property from the restaurant. Witnesses told officers that three people had abandoned the truck and ran into the woods near Bay Market Liquors.

After a lengthy search with police dogs, officers arrested David Alexander Bready, 31, of the 1000 block of Bay Ridge Avenue, and Darnell Linda Mattucci, 34, of the unit block of Sargents Court. They also were charged with theft, police said.
