A former volunteer for the Perot presidential campaign filed suit yesterday against the state Perot coordinator, claiming she slandered him by calling him a "woman-hater, bigot and high member of the Ku Klux Klan."

Lawrence Way, a former Republican mayor of Burkittsville who led the Draft Perot movement in Frederick County until May 1, is asking for $5 million in punitive damages from Joan Vinson of Annapolis, Mr. Perot's Maryland coordinator. Also named as defendants in the suit filed in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court are Ross Perot himself, volunteer Hal Kass of Annapolis and the Perot campaign.

Mrs. Vinson released a statement through the Maryland Perot Petition Committee. "The efforts put out by the volunteers have been enormous and most have been positive," said spokeswoman Carol Feldmann, reading the statement. "I'm sorry Way saw fit to file suit."
