The Odenton Jaycees will sponsor a Summer Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at the Odenton Fire Hall on Route 175. Tickets are $12 per person, and include music by the Contours, beer, pretzels, chips and door prizes. All proceeds will benefit 8-year-old Paul Crismond Jr.
Paul is an Odenton resident suffering from a brain tumor.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, will begin a

Summer playgrounds sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks offer fun activities for boys and girls ages 5 1/2 to 12. Children must be 6 years old by Dec. 31, 1992. There can be no exceptions to this age restriction.
Preschool playgrounds are available for children ages 3 to 5. The preschoolers must be 3 years old by June 29, 1992, and must be toilet-trained.
The daily playground hours are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The preschool program runs as two half days, with the morning session running from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon session from noon to 2:30 p.m.
All programs operate Monday through Friday, June 29 through Aug. 7. Activities at each location are planned around various individual themes. The types of activities will vary from sports to arts and crafts to indoor and outdoor games and special events. An additional fee will be charged for any trips taken.
The lunch period is supervised at all sites, but children are required to provide their own lunch and drink. No transportation is provided to or from the playground.
The fee is $60 for 6 weeks for 5 1/2 to 12 year olds, $70 for six weeks for age 3 to 5. Playground locations are Four Seasons Elementary, Manor View Elementary and Odenton Elementary. Preschool programs are held at Waugh Chapel Elementary.

The Piney Orchard Ice Arena is continuing its Adult Open Hockey Sessions. The sessions will run from June 19 to Aug. 2. All participants must be 18 or older and have proof of USA Hockey registration and insurance.
If you need to register, Piney Orchard has the necessary forms. The rules include modified slap shot and no check. Admission fee for each session is $5 (maximum of 30 skaters allowed), and admission for the first three goaltenders is free (maximum of three goaltenders allowed).

Professional magician Michael Chamberlin will return with a bagful of comedy magic tricks to the Odenton Branch library, 1270 Odenton Road, at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on July 7. His magic show, one of the special events in the library's Summer Reading Program, is free and open to children through grade six.
Registration is not required for the hourlong show, but seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
