* California Angels right-hander Joe Grahe has two career saves. Both have come this year in relief of Bert Blyleven, who has 282 wins and made his major-league debut in 1973, when Grahe was 6.

* Rob Deer recently went three consecutive games without striking out -- matching his longest such streak since he joined the Detroit Tigers. In comparison, the San Diego Padres' Tony Gwynn struck out once in his first 172 at-bats, including going all of May without striking out.

* Right-hander Bob Wickman, who came to the New York Yankees from the Chicago White Sox in the Steve Sax trade, is 9-1 with a 1.86 ERA with Triple-A Columbus.

* It wasn't an oddity when Cecil Fielder singled off the center-field fence at SkyDome in Toronto last week. It was the third time in the past two years that the Tigers' mammoth first baseman has gotten only one base on a drive off the outfield wall.
