The best round was saved for last in yesterday's Middle Atlantic PGA Pro-Am Tournament at Chestnut Ridge Country Club.

Even though Dennis Winters (Eisenhower GC) was one of the last players to come off the course at 8 p.m., he shot a tournament-best 32 (3-under par) on the back nine holes to finish with a 6-under 65 to win the professional division.

Play was delayed a half-hour by rain.

"I've been playing well recently," said Winters, who won the Pine Branch Pro-Am a few weeks ago. "The past month I've been shooting par or less."

Winters birdied the last three holes on the front nine to finish with a 3-under 33 and had three birdies on the back nine shooting par or below.

Mike McGinnis (Holly Hills GC) won the senior pro division shooting a 1-under 70 with five birdies.

Bobby Bilbo (Argyle CC) and Bill Nicholson (Chestnut Ridge CC) both finished with a 70 (36-34) to win the amateur gross division.

Nicholson, Joe Wood (Norbeck CC), Ron Scales and Jim Foley (University of Maryland GC) were the winning amateur gross team with a 133 (66-67).

Kevin Breece (Herndon Municipal GC) won the amateur net with a 60 (82-22), followed by Jack Kowitz (Chestnut Ridge CC) with a 61 (78-17).

Breece, Marty O'Rear (Northern Virginia GC), Leo Coates (Cedar Crest CC) and Brian Robbins (Reston GC) won the team amateur net with a score of 119 (60-59).
