Ledo Pizza

Shawan Plaza, 11321 York Road, Hunt Valley. Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays,

11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, noon to 9 p.m. Sundays. (410) 785-LEDO. For years former University of Maryland students or anyone who had lived in the College Park area would make the trek back to Ledo's whenever they were in the mood for pizza, because in those days, there was absolutely nothing like Ledo's Pizza. Today, Ledo fans can order pizza in 20 locations around the state.

I stopped by the Hunt Valley Ledo to see if it brought back tasty memories and I was not disappointed. Plain pizza is offered in three sizes -- small, $3.95; medium, $5.95 and large, $9.95. However, the price goes up as you add your favorites of the 18 toppings offered. We had a small mushroom and sausage, $5.95; Italian chicken submarine sandwich (two grilled chicken breasts covered with Ledo's tomato sauce, grilled onion, green peppers and hot melted provolone cheese), $4.49; and a side order of (seven) mozzarella sticks, served with a tasty tomato sauce, $2.75.

The menu offers spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, $4.95; lasagna with garlic bread, $5.95. There's an interesting combo of Italian salad; hot, soft bread sticks; and minestrone soup. Refills are available for all three items, but you cannot share or get a doggie bag. (Cost is $4.29 until 3 p.m. when the price goes to $5.29.)

There are also lots of non-Italian sandwiches and subs, fresh desserts and soups. If you opt to eat there, there are about a dozen booths and 10 tables, so it's a good place to take the whole family.
