Teen-ager charged with Essex homicide

Baltimore County police said an Eastern Shore teen-ager was arrested last night and charged with the slaying of a 20-year-old Essex man during an argument.

The youth was held overnight pending a bail hearing today.

Police said James M. Reilly, 16, of Parsonsburg in Wicomico County, was charged with first-degree murder and using a handgun in the commission of a felony after the death last night of Elmer Robert Sturgeon, of the 400 block of Mace Ave.

The victim and the suspect, police said, were arguing in front of an service station in the 200 block of Eastern Boulevard about 6 p.m. when Mr. Sturgeon was shot twice in the back with a small-caliber handgun.

Rushed by ambulance to the Francis Scott Key Medical Center, Mr. Sturgeon died a short time later while undergoing surgery.

Police said the arrest was made near the scene.
