Carroll M. Conrad
Letter carrier, 71
Services for Carroll McGee Conrad of Elkridge will take place at 1 p.m. tomorrow, at the Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
Mr. Conrad, 71, died June 11 of emphysema at the home of his son, David J. Conrad, in Arnold.
Mr. Conrad was born in Raleigh, N.C., and was raised there and in Washington, D.C. He lived in Philadelphia and Bowie for 28 years.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a corporal. Mr. Conrad was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
Other interests included watching sports.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Ely, whom he married in 1944; two daughters, Carol A. Conrad of Elkridge and Nancy L. Martin of Bowie; his son, David J. Conrad; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or the Association for Retarded Citizens.
Helen V. Shiroky
Clerk typist, 71
A Mass of Christian burial for retired clerk typist Helen Victoria Shiroky of Arnold was offered June 13 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church.
Mrs. Shiroky, 71, died June 10 of cancer at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
She was born and raised in Biloxi, Miss., and later lived in Baltimore.
Mrs. Shiroky attended Germantown Elementary School in Annapolis.
She worked for the Anne Arundel County Animal Control Department until she retired seven years ago.
Mrs. Shiroky was active in charitable works. She was the past president of both the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department and the Anne Arundel County Ladies Auxiliary.
Other interests included sewing, crafts, art, painting and biking.
Her husband, Albert Shiroky, died in 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Smith of Arnold and Dorothy Victoria Shiroky of Annapolis; two brothers, Bernard and Paul Sasada, both of Crystal River, Fla., two sisters, Dorothy Majerowicz of Pasadena and Bertha Milling to Pasadena; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Anne Arundel County.
Arrangements were by the Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
Cassie B. Schochet
Services for retired pharmacist Cassie Baum Schochet of Glen Burnie took place June 13 at the Singleton Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Schochet, 87, died June 10 of a coronary at North Arundel Hospital.
She was born in Alexandria, Va., and later attended Johns Hopkins University, graduating with a degree in education. She taught at a school for the blind and worked as a health care technician for Dr. George Merrill, a Baltimore psychiatrist, between 1958 and 1967.
For a time, Mrs. Schochet owned a pharmacy on Crain Highway with her husband, the late Dr. Paul Schochet.
Her interests included gardening, crocheting rugs and traveling.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret Reddick of Baltimore; a grandson and one great-grandchild.
