Steppingstone Museum becomes a Scottish country fair

The grounds of Steppingstone Museum near Havre de Grace will take on the atmosphere of a Scottish country fair today during Highland Games Day.

The John F. Nicoll Pipe Band and Mackenzie's Company 71st Highland Regiment of Foot will lead off the festivities with a grand march at noon. Sheepherding demonstrations, sheepshearing, country dancing, musical entertainment, storytelling and games demonstrations are among the many events scheduled throughout the afternoon. The festival runs until 5 p.m.

A new attraction this year is the living history encampment by Mackenzie's Company, a group of Highlanders who came to America to fight for the crown during the War of Independence. They will drill at 1 p.m. and present firing demonstrations at 3:30 p.m. Information will be available at clan tents and local Scottish societies, and Scottish wares and food will be for sale.

Admission is $4 for adults; free for ages 12 and under. The museum is on Quaker Bottom Road in Susquehanna State Park near Havre de Grace. Call (410) 939-2299.
