Essex seeks third Series win in row

May 27, 1992

Essex Community College has won its first two games in the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., and tonight plays Blinn, Texas, the only other unbeaten team in the tournament.

Essex got by fourth-ranked Logan, Ill., 8-6, late Monday night. Jeff Fry, a freshman from Lancaster, Pa., hit a grand slam and Chris Lafferman, a 1990 graduate of Poly, had a two-run double. Robbie Webster (Patterson) was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Juan Johnson.

Essex has a 34-4 overall record for coach George Henderson, who expects to pitch Fry against Blinn today.
