"Howards End" is James Ivory's version of the E.M. Forster novel about class warfare waged in the polite English style of Britain. The brilliant cast includes Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave and Helena Bonham Carter. Rated PG.

"Alien 3" is the hyper-expensive, hyper-fervid sequel to the scary "Alien" and the intense "Aliens." Sigourney Weaver is back, but her hair isn't. Rated R.

"Far and Away" is a romantic epic of Irish immigration, with Tom Cruise and his wife Nicole Kidmann giving up motherland for the rambunctious America of the 1890s. Rated PG-13.

"Encino Man" is a loud teen farce about a frozen dude from the past who comes tubing into the present courtesy of a quake. MTV's Pauly Shore, speaking a language unknown to man, stars. And he's NOT the cave man! Rated PG-13.
