The Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights conducted its annual Awards Luncheon last Tuesday at the Rolling Road Golf Club.
President Anne Yakaitis presented several awards, won by the club and by individual members last month at the Maryland Federation of Woman's Clubs Convention at the BWI Marriott.
The luncheon's special guests were Chelsea Dansworth, the club's 1992 Hugh O'Brien Youth (HOBY) representative, and her mother. Chelsea, a sophomore at North County High School, discussed the leadership seminar and how much the weekend meant to her.
The club also honored two of its members, Eloise Vaughan and Marge Smith. Vaughan was recognized for her work with the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum (PAAL) and the Concerts in Linthicum Park series last summer.
Smith received the Regional Award from Soroptimist International for her contribution to the environment. She spends hours planting flowers and trees and clearing debris to beautify community sites. The award was presented by Anne Skillman, )) the Soroptimist's South Atlantic Region chairwoman of the Making a Difference for Women Committee.
Verena Linthicum, the Maryland Federation of Women's Clubs' corresponding secretary, installed the 1992-1994 club officers and Board of Governors. The new officers are Celeste Riddle, president; Rosalie Falter, first vice-president; Colein Fischbach, second vice-president; Karen Bowers, recording secretary; Carol Novak, corresponding secretary; and Elizabeth Higdon, treasurer.
The Board of Governors for 1992-1994 are Patricia Borsuk, Annabel Bowers, Cathy Colvin, Marge Holmes and Jeanne Shaffer.
The club will participate in Macy's Benefit Shopping Day at Marley Station Mall from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 2.
Tickets are $5 and include two discount coupons. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. There will be a special guest appearance by Tom Eplin from "Another World" and Gordon from "Sesame Street."
Proceeds from this fund-raiser will support the Woman's Club's many community projects.

The Linthicum Heights Homemakers will have a Birthday Luncheon at noon Thursday at the Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church.

The musical variety group, the Notables, members of the American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3850, will sing for member Bill Meskie's class reunion. The Glen Burnie High School Class of 1937 will meet for dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at Snyder's Willow Grove Restaurant.
The group also will perform at Linthicum AARP Chapter 2244's birthday celebration at 1 p.m. June 1.

Community cleanup days are coming. Get your spring yard work and house cleaning completed, and take your refuse to the parking lot of Linthicum Park on Benton Avenue. The trash containers will be there from 8 a.m. May 27 to 8 a.m. May 29. Please note that the trash containers will be removed very early Friday morning. Do not leave any trash if you do not see the truck.
Everyone is asked to please load their debris into the back of the trash containers first in order to fill them more efficiently. No commercial waste and hazardous or toxic materials (like oil, paint or pesticides) may be placed in the containers. The county tentatively has set a hazardous waste collection day for June 6.
The Linthicum Shipley Improvement Association made arrangements with the county Department of Public Works to place the trash bins in the area.
The District 32 Democratic Club will have a general meeting from to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Ferndale Fire Hall, Broadview Boulevard and Ferndale Road.
The meeting will feature an update on the 1992 General Assembly and our local lawmakers, Sen. Michael J. Wagner and delegates Tyrus S. Athey, Patrick C. Scannello and Victor A. Sulin.
A cookout is planned for this meeting in the fire hall parking lot. The cost is $4.

St. Philip Neri Catholic School, 6401 Orchard Road in Linthicum, having its final Home School meeting of the school year at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in the school hall.
After the general meeting, the students will present a musical program. Stephen Taylor will lead the fourth- through eighth-grade band. Philip Esserwein will direct the choral presentation. Refreshments will follow.

The school's annual Field Day will take place on Friday. The day will begin with a 9 a.m. Mass in honor of St. Philip Neri, followed by games and races. Children must wear their uniforms to school and will be allowed to change prior to the games.
Lunch will be picnic-style, with hot dogs, punch, potato chips, pretzels, ice cream and candy available for purchase.
