Essex Community College defeated visiting County College of Morris, from Randolph, N.J.,9-0, to win the rain-delayed Mid-East District baseball title yesterday. The Knights advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament beginning later this week in Grand Junction, Colo.

In Friday's opener, Essex got all the runs it needed in a four-run third inning and won, 8-3. The big blow was a two-run single by Onza Elmore. Leading 5-3, Essex got a leadoff home run from Ken Batten in the eighth inning and sewed up the decision with two more runs.

The second game was suspended by rain with Essex batting in the last of the seventh and leading, 6-0. Greg Boy's two-run single was a key hit in a five-run sixth inning. When play resumed yesterday, Chris Lafferman led off with a bases-loaded double that drove in two runs. Pitcher Jackson Edwards allowed three hits over seven innings and got the win.
