Navy commander returns

Navy Cmdr. Edward P. Cornely, son of Walter and Margaret Cornely of Columbia, returned aboard the submarine tender, USS Simon Lake, based in Holy Loch, Scotland, from the NATO multinational exercise "Teamwork 92."

Cornely joined the Navy in May 1973.

Weathersby honored

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class William F. Weathersby, a 1982 graduate of Atholton High School, recently received the Good Conduct Medal.

Weathersby, currently assigned at Pacific Operation Support Facility in Hawaii, joined the Navy in January 1988.

Recruit ends training

Navy Seaman Recruit Jason R. Becker, son of Joel and Joan Becker of Columbia, completed basic training at Great Lakes, Ill.

A 1990 graduate of Hammond High School, Becker joined the Navy in January.

Private finishes training

Army Pvt. Woodrow W. Adams III, son of Woodrow W. Adams of Mount Airy, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Howard grad qualified

Army Pfc. Michael T. Senate, son of Barbara S. Senate of Columbia, has completed training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

The training qualified him as a light-weapons infantryman and as an indirect-fire crewman in a rifle or mortar squad.

Senate is a 1990 graduate of Howard High School.

Belmore reenlists

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory W. Belmore, son of Bill and Vicki Belmore of Jessup, reenlisted for six years while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, based in Mayport, Fla.

Belmore joined the Navy in July 1978.

Marine's top achiever

Marine Cpl. Charles M. Lowery, son of Donald and Ann Stromberg of Columbia, received the Navy Achievement Medal.

Lowery was cited for superior performance while serving as Battalion Embarkation Noncommissioned Officer at Camp Lejeune, N.C., where he is stationed.

Lowery is a 1989 graduate of Hammond High School.

Hammond grad promoted

Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher W. Dixon, who resides in Columbia, was promoted to his present rank while serving at Naval Air Technical Training Center, Millington, Tenn.

Dixon is a 1986 graduate of Hammond High School.

Lloyd is Marine private

Marine Pvt. Lisa L. Lloyd, daughter of Robert Lloyd of Laurel, completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.

Bryan graduates

Navy Ensign Kyle A. Bryan, son of Thomas and Cecelia Bryan of Columbia, graduated from Navy Supply School at Athens, Ga.

Bryan is a 1987 graduate of Virginia Military Institute.

Horan becomes Ranger

Army 2nd Lt. Leonard J. Horan Jr., son of Leonard and JoAnne Horan of Woodbine, has graduated from the 58-day Ranger course at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Horan is a 1987 graduate of Glenelg High School.

Airman passes course

Airman Frederick W. Mohlhenrich, son of Suzi L. King of Lisbon, has graduated from the aircraft metals technology course at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill.

The course provided students with instruction on welding structures and making metal repairs required in the maintenance of Air Force weaponry and general ground equipment.

Navy seaman is trained

Navy Seaman Recruit Christian K. Fisher, son of Dorothy Fisher of Sykesville, recently completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Marine completes course

Marine Pfc. Mjuaji A. Smith, son of William H. Smith of Columbia, completed the Logistic Vehicle Systems Operator Course at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Smith is a 1990 graduate of Howard High School.

Air Force sgt. reports

Air Force Staff Sgt. Howard E. Miller, son of Anna C. Miller of Woodbine, has arrived for duty at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.

Miller is a tactical aircraft maintenance technician.

Oehl is specialist

Airman 1st Class Stefani L. Oehl, daughter of Barry and Linda Oehl of Ellicott City, has graduated from the environmental medicine specialist course at Brooks Air Force base, San Antonio, Texas.

Oehl is a 1989 graduate of Oakland Mills High School.

Lieutenant arrives in La.

Air Force 2nd Lt. Christian T. Hanley Jr., son of Christian and Linda Hanley of Sykesville, arrived for duty at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La.

Hanley is a staff physician assistant.

Staubitz decorated

Army Cpl. Wilson D. Staubitz Jr., son of Wilson D. Staubitz of Ellicott City, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

Staubitz graduated from Mount Hebron High School in 1985.

Petty officer reports

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John J. Brewer, son of John J. Brewer Sr. of Mount Airy, reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, based in San Diego, Calif.
