Taylor's Pinto has horsepower to spare in super street race

Chuck Taylor of Westminster, debuting his Ford Pinto, won the super street class at Sunday 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia, Frederick County.

Taylor covered the quarter mile in 10.95 seconds in the final round. He also raced in Class I and advanced to the third round of eliminations.

Sherry Will of Westminster won the powder puff race and Ray Lewis of Woodbine was runner-up in Class I in his Camaro.

In Class II, Scott Chasen of Taneytown made it to the semi-final round in his Falcon. Chris Hruska of Mount Airy, Tom Humm of Taneytown and Scott Lowman of Woodbine all made it to the quarterfinals.

In the motorcycles, Dave Belt of Taneytown was runner-up.

In other motor sports action from the weekend:

* Woody Etzler of Mount Airy was the only Carroll-area driver to make a strong showing at the MOPAR meet for Chrysler products Sunday at Mason-Dixon Dragway near Hagerstown, Washington County.

Etzler advanced to the third round in the Class I competition in 1980 Arrow.

* At Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway May 9, Cris Eash dueled for three laps before grabbing the lead on the 15th lap of super sprint feature and earned his victory of the season.
