It's time once again for the annual Baltimore Herb Festival, which has become, in just six years, the largest festival devoted to herbs in the country.

The theme of this year's event -- to be held Saturday rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Leakin Park at the chapel -- will be Christopher Columbus and the pepper, in celebration of the addition of peppers to Old World cuisines.

There will be lectures, cooking demonstrations, displays, food and music, plus flower, vegetable, and the largest selection of usual and unusual herb plants around.

Admission is $3. Take Exit 16 off the Beltway toward Baltimore. Turn onto Security Boulevard. Turn right at the first light onto Forest Park Avenue. Turn right at next light onto Windsor Mill Road. Look for signs for festival parking.
