CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- The Charles Town Races will present a special 13-race card today featuring a simulcast of the Preakness live via satellite from Pimlico Race Course.

Gates for the simulcast card will open at 3:30 p.m., with post time for the second jewel of the Triple Crown slated for 5:32 p.m.

Charles Town will televise ABC's entire pre-race show beginning at 4:30 p.m. on its closed-circuit television network, which consists of more than 150 monitors. Included in the network are a number of tabletop monitors on the Skyline Terrace and large-screen projection sets in key areas of the track.

Wagers on the Preakness will be accepted at all Charles Town mutuel windows beginning at 4:50 p.m. with local players creating their own odds, independent of those at Pimlico.

For example, Charles Town fans who backed Lil E. Tee in the Kentucky Derby were rewarded with payoffs of $53.80, $19.20 and $11.80 while bettors at Churchill Downs received mutuels of $35.60, $12.60 and $7.60.

Wagers accepted will include win, place, show, quinella and the daily double.
