May 15, 1992

A Montgomery County man was killed last night when a car he was riding in overturned on an access road to Interstate 270 near Rockville.

Pronounced dead at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda from multiple injuries was Anthony Levelle Jenkins, 20, of Chevy Chase.

State Police said a 1987 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Jonathan Luper, 17, of Gaithersburg, was southbound shortly before 10 p.m. at a high rate of speed.

Going out of control, the car left the roadway, went down an embankment and overturned.

Police said young Luper, Mr. Jenkins and a second passenger, Senai Hankerson, 20, of Bethesda, were thrown from the car.

All were taken to Suburban Hospital.

Young Luper was listed in critical condition today. Mr. Hankerson was in good condition.

Police said excessive speed, use of alcohol and driver error contributed to the accident. Traffic charges against Jonathan Luper were pending, police said.
