Two people killed in separate accidents

Two people died in traffic accidents Tuesday, State Police say, bringing the number of traffic deaths this year to 188, compared with 205 the same time last year.

In Easton in Caroline County, a pickup truck occupied by three people went out of control on a curve on Md. 328 near No Name Road at 11 p.m. and overturned.

Police said all three occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Pronounced dead at the scene was Esther Mae Powell, 36, of Denton.

The driver, Dennis M. Winston, 30, and a second passenger, Howard M. Flamer, 30, both of Centerville, were injured. They were flown to the Maryland Shock-Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Police said charges against Mr. Winston were pending his release from the hospital.

State Police at Forestville said a man walking across Interstate 495 under the Riggs Road overpass about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday was killed when he stepped into the path of a Cadillac.

Police said Vincent Scola, 31, of the 8600 block of Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt, died a short time later at a hospital from multiple injuries.

No charges were placed against the driver of the car, Timothy A. Craig, 38, of Forestville.
