NVR L.P.

This McLean, Va.-based homebuilder reported a smaller loss in this year's first quarter compared with a year ago as its homebuilding operations enjoyed a "significantly improved operating performance," the company said. However, it said the improvement was offset, in part, by a decrease in the earnings of the financial services operations.

NVR said its homebuilding operations recorded profits of $5.5 million before interest and taxes in contrast to a loss of $2.7 million last year.

Income from financial services was $2.6 million compared to $8 million in the same period last year.
