Marie Ann Barnes
Funeral services for Marie Ann "Mitzi" Barnes, 47, of Columbia, took place April 22 at Trinity School in Ellicott City. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated the day after at St. Helena's Church in Delaware.
Ms. Barnes died April 20 at Washington Adventist Hospital in Tacoma Park of a heart attack.
Ms. Barnes was assistant principal of Trinity School since 1987. An English literature teacher, she was also involved in curriculum development.
She was a member of the National Educational Association (NEA), the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS), and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, where she served as an evaluator of other schools.
She joined the faculty of Trinity School in 1972 as a literature teacher and later also served as a media specialist. Prior to her position at Trinity, she taught in public schools in Delaware and ,, St. Ursula's School in Parkville.
Born in Delaware, she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and master's degree in Education from Towson State University.
Ms. Barnes is survived by a daughter, Maura Barnes, 17, of Columbia; and her father, Francis E. Lank, and brother, Jerome Lank, both of Wilmington, Del.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity School Scholarship Fund.
