In a former servants' house across the street from the Milton Inn, Julie and Michael Eagan have opened Fine Things, a shop selling antiques, collectibles and gifts. And for Ms. Eagan, who grew up in the area, buying and renovating the old house was like rescuing an old friend.

"I had watched this house almost 30 years," she says. "I remember going past it when I was little and thinking, 'If only I could get inside.' "

The house was part of the Huff estate, a large farm that goes back to the 1760s. "It was the servants' house," she adds.

The Eagans bought the house when the estate was subdivided and spent almost two years restoring it.

Ms. Eagan has arranged the shop in room settings and plans to add a kitchen area soon to show off her kitchen wares.

Fine Things is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

The shop is located at 14824 York Road in Sparks. The

telephone number is (410) 472-4117.
