Tridium a 3-1 pick at Rosecroft for William E. Miller Memorial

May 09, 1992|By Kent Baker

The colt Tridium and the filly Pensive, who had the fastest times in their respective eliminations last week, drew the outside post positions for their finals in the first leg of harness racing's Grand Circuit tonight at Rosecroft Raceway.

Still, Tridium has been installed the 3-1 favorite in the overnight odds for the $236,088 William E. Miller Memorial race for colts.

And Pensive, who starts in the No. 9 position, is a 4-1 second choice to Come Unwound (5-2) in the $172,740 John W. Miller Memorial for fillies.

Tridium took his mile elimination in 1 minute, 55 4/5 seconds last weekend. Admiral's Galley, who starts from No. 4, won his heat in 1:56 1/5. Hall of Famer Bill O'Donnell will be in the sulky behind Admiral's Galley.

Pensive ran an impressive 1:55 1/5, fastest of all, and fared only slightly worse in the draw than Touch Lightly (1:55 3/5), who starts from No. 8 with O'Donnell driving.

Come Unwound got the rail after winning a third elimination in 1:56 2/5.

These are two early-season showdowns for 3-year-olds on what is regarded as sport's traveling all-star show. Both races are being simulcast to various American harness tracks.

Post time for a 13-race card is 7:30.
