Wayne E. Queen, a procurement officer with Baltimore's Urban Services Agency, died Sunday of complications of cancer at Liberty Medical Center. The Park Heights Avenue resident was 53.
Services for Mr. Queen were being held tonight at Emmanuel Christian Community Church, 1210 W. Lanvale St.
He had worked for the city for 27 years. He assisted with such projects as reconstruction of the Sandtown-Winchester Community Center and the Share a Gift of Love Program for children at Christmas. In 1990 and 1991, he chaired fund drives for the Eubie Blake Cultural Arts Center.
Since 1976, he had been active with the AFRAM Festival Committee, serving first as vendor chairman and later as logistics chairman. He put in long hours before, during and after the festival, including helping to set it up and helping with the cleanup.
At Emmanuel Christian Community Church, he was president of the Male Chorus and sang in the Senior Choir. He was also a member of the Community Men.
His survivors include his mother and stepfather, Thelma and Malcolm Turner, and his father, Allen Quille, all of Baltimore; a brother, Ronald Queen, also of Baltimore; and a sister, Denise Smith of Rockdale.
