Glenelg boys, Hammond girls lead in Howard track and field

Glenelg held a 46-44 lead over defending champion Oakland Mills at the conclusion of the first day of the Howard County boys track championships at Oakland Mills yesterday.

Defending champion Hammond led the girls competition over Howard.

Glenelg's Jeff Slack easily won the high jump competition, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches, and teammate Gerard Hogan took first in the 3,200-meter run in 9 minutes, 48.7 seconds.

Glenelg also won the 3,200 relay and placed third in the 800 relay.

Samantha Andersch won the 3,200 for Hammond with an 11:59.5 effort. Hammond finished second in the 3,200 relay and the Bears' Roxette St. Jean finished second in the shot put.

The meet was scheduled to conclude today.
