Man fatally shot in robbery of carryout

May 07, 1992

A 30-year-old west Baltimore man was fatally shot early today during an attempted armed robbery inside a carryout in the 1800 block of Edmondson Ave., police said.

The name of the victim, a resident of the 500 block of Poplar Grove St., was being withheld pending notification of his family, police said.

Homicide Detective Scott Keller said the victim was waiting for a food order shortly before 11 p.m. at the Good Luck Chinese restaurant, 1834 Edmondson Ave., when two men, one armed with a handgun, entered and approached him.

Detective Keller said when the men attempted to rob the victim, who was holding some money in his hand, he struggled with the gunman and was shot in the chest. The victim staggered outside and fell to the pavement, the detective said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a city ambulance crew.

The robbers may have picked up the victim's money from the floor after he fell, police said.

Several people inside the carryout were interviewed by police in an effort to identify the gunman and his accomplice. However, no arrests have been made.
