P.G. man in custody after Edgewater rape

A 26-year-old woman was raped shortly before dawn yesterday at a house in Edgewater, county police said. Police said they were holding a Prince George's County man in connection with the incident but they had not filed charges late yesterday.

The woman, who lives in Glen Burnie, told police she was at the South County house with three men. About 4:30 a.m. two of the men left, leaving her alone with the suspect, who she said forced her to the floor of a bedroom and raped her.

A short time later, police arrested a 30-year-old Landover man.

Soldier denied bail on conspiracy charge

District Judge Martha Rasin denied bail yesterday to the brother of a Fort Meade soldier convicted of conspiring to murder a 15-year-old girl in her town house in Pioneer City.

James Jackson, 27, was charged with the murder after his brother, Jesse Jackson, said at his sentencing on the conspiracy charge last month that fire-bombing the house and shooting Sun Young Chong, a high school sophomore, was James' idea.

James was arrested Friday in Georgia on a warrant issued after his brother's trial ended March 27 in a conviction.

Jesse said at his sentencing that he sent his brother to the teen's house, but that fire bombing and shooting had not been part of his plan.

Armed pair robs fabric store Monday

Police were looking yesterday for two men who held up a fabric store in Severna Park Monday night.

During the robbery at Jo-Ann Fabrics, in the 500 block of Ritchie Highway, the men threatened the clerk with a handgun or a revolver at about 7:15 p.m.

Two clerks were forced into the bathroom after they gave the men an undetermined amount of cash.
