Helen Neisser and her daughter Renee Rebstock have a working and dressing arrangement that is almost sisterly. Mrs. Neisser owns the busy "Rumors" salon and boutique in Pasadena where she employs 25 operators. Ms. Rebstock, the reigning Miss Maryland USA, is vice president of the enterprise and a working cosmetologist. They are each other's greatest fans and share clothes as well as interests.

How would you describe your taste in clothing?

DFlamboyant. I like glitter, glitz and shine. I must have 20 pairs of silver, gold and bronze shoes in my closets. Even my sweat suits are trimmed with glitter.

What's the newest thing in your closet?

suit with a short "carwash" skirt made up of overlapping flaps that create a swing. It is houndstooth with a black jacket.

What's the oldest thing in your closet?

One of my husband's first police sweat shirts. We weren't married then and I borrowed it and never returned it. He has been with the Anne Arundel Police Department for 27 years and will retire in August.

What have you kept for sentimental reasons?

That same old sweat shirt.

What is your wardrobe weakness?

Definitely shoes. I probably have 150 pairs. I look for anything that is unusual and catches my eye. My daughter and I wear nearly the same size, and that allows for more combinations.

What's the most expensive thing in your closet?

Louis Vuitton luggage. I have the duffel, cosmetics bag, satchel, garment bag and purse and tote.

What's the least expensive item in your closet?

Most of my costume jewelry is inexpensive, but I know how to throw it together with an outfit. A lot of people don't have the knack.

What's the wildest outfit you ever bought?

When Renee and I traveled to the Miss Teen USA pageant in El Paso, I wore a raw silk dress that looked like a paper bag with open sides connected by fabric strips.

What are your favorite accessories?

AMy favorite earrings are black rhinestones that were bought for a pageant seven years ago. I still wear them.

Renee Rebstock says she is finished with pageants, although she

would consider entering the Mrs. Maryland contest when she gets married. She keeps trim and healthy with a serious exercise program and jet-skiing to offset her fun with cooking.

How would you describe your taste in clothing?

wardrobe is extensive and includes everything from cut-off jeans to fancy gowns. I pretty much dress down at work and save my better clothes for weekends because at the salon clothes can be ruined by drips from hair tints and chemicals.

What's the newest thing in your closet?

just bought two new pairs of sling-back shoes and a suit in a soft mint green. It has a wrap skirt and can be dressed up or down with pumps or flats.

What is the oldest thing in your closet?

update my clothes every couple of months and don't keep things around. My oldest things is a comfortable pair of jeans.

Do you have a standby that you wear to feel good?

plaid pants can go anywhere. I wear them with a T-shirt and gold or silver shoes.

What have you held on to for sentimental reasons?

had the gold from bits of jewelry from my grandmother and grandfather and family melted down and made into a "good luck" bracelet that I wear all the time.

What is your wardrobe weakness?

Shoes. My mother has the weakness too. She wears a half-size bigger but we can trade off on a lot of them.

What's the most expensive item in your closet?

a pink rhinestone-studded suit that cost $550.

What's the least expensive item in your closet?

AMy old pair of jeans cost about $9.99 and I get a lot of wear out of them.

What's the wildest outfit you have ever worn?

When I was in the Miss Teen Maryland festival at Sandy Point in 1987 I had to wear a mermaid costume and could barely walk.

What are your favorite accessories?

favorites are my gold "good luck" island bracelet and one of precious stones and gold that was a gift from my boyfriend.

Do you have any shopping tips to share?

always go for the sales to get really good buys on nice clothes. I like to shop The Limited and Express. For something a little flashier, I look in on Contempo Casuals.
