Breast cancer survivor Patricia Schmoke and Ellie Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority, will be among the speakers at a rally Sunday at Hopkins Plaza to stop the growing numbers of deaths caused by breast cancer.

"Stop Breast Cancer: A Mother's Day Challenge" is intended to generate support for increasing funding for breast cancer research. Women with breast cancer are asked to wear white.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. It is sponsored by the Breast Cancer Coalition, the University of Maryland Cancer Center and the Arm-in-Arm support group.

Other speakers include community activist Bea Gaddy, WJZ reporter Sandra Pinkney, Maryland delegate Joan Pitkin, D-Prince George's, and Pat Brack and Ben Brack, co-authors of "Moms Don't Get Sick." Singers Ethel Ennis and Ruby Glover will provide entertainment.
