Cleveland Indians -- Purchased the contract of former Orioles 3B Craig Worthington from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Optioned C Jesse Levis to Colorado Springs.

Detroit Tigers -- Sent P Dan Gakeler to Double-A London on a rehabilitation assignment.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Placed 2B Juan Samuel (two broken fingers) on the 15-day DL retroactive to April 28. Placed 1B Kal Daniels (sore right knee) on the 15-day DL retroactive to Monday. Gave OF Stan Javier permission to return to the Dominican Republic for a family matter. Recalled P Kip Gross from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Texas Rangers -- Activated P Nolan Ryan from the 15-day DL. Optioned P Barry Manuelto Triple-A Oklahoma City. Sent IF Monty Fariss to Oklahoma City on a 20-day rehabilitation assignment.

Big West Conference -- Approved the addition of Southwestern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Northern Illinois and Arkansas State to the conference football program.

Auburn -- Announced the resignation of Pat Dye as athletic director, effective when a successor is named.

Indiana -- Announced that starting football C Jason Mack lost his final season of eligibility after being suspended by the NCAA for a year for an unspecified rules violation.

Marshall -- Named Sarah Evans women's basketball coach.

Michigan -- Named Trish Roberts women's basketball coach.

St. Louis -- Named Greg Lackey, a former recruiter at Texas-El Paso, and Win Case men's assistant basketball coaches.

Towson State -- Announced the signing of G Tanya Belair, Annville, Pa.; G Jen Kotkin, Kennett Square, Pa.; and G-F Becky Meyers, Brogue, Pa., to women's basketball letters of intent.

Teikyo Westmar -- Named David Schroeder football coach and athletic director.

Western Kentucky -- Board of regents voted, 6-4, for president Tom Meredith's proposal to provide $450,000 to pay for football in the school's 1992-93 budget. Western Kentucky considered abandoning its program because of state funding cuts.

Major Soccer League -- Named Baltimorean Joe Manfre to work the championship series between San Diego and Dallas.
