Circus Workers Hurt By High Winds Friday

Two circus workers were injured Friday when high winds knocked down a large tent they were setting up at a Columbia shopping center, according to Battalion Chief Donald R. Howell of county fire and rescue services.

Lauren Valla, 24, cut her foot as she ran for shelter from a thunderstorm at Kings Contrivance Shopping Center. Sean Aravitte,22, injured his wrist as high winds lifted him into the air while heheld onto the tent's support ropes.

Both circus workers were treated at Howard County General Hospital.


Two young parents seekingshelter in a vacant apartment were arrested for breaking and entering Saturday night.

Police arrested 21-year-old Anthony W. Bowser, Jr., of no known address, and 19-year-old Angelina Kaul, of the 9200 block of Livery Lane, inside an apartment at 9100 Bourbon Street in North Laurel.

5200 block of Flattail Court: Two unidentified men are suspected of breaking and entering Monday morning. Police said a rear window was smashed, a window frame was pried and a set of keys was taken.

6800 block of Pyramid Way: Someone tried to remove screens from two sliding doors Monday.

6000 block of Stevens Forest Road: The rear door and storage closet of the neighborhood center were pried open between Friday and Monday.

Unitblock of Bendix Road: Someone cut a gate lock at a maintenance shop and entered a trailer between Friday and Sunday.

5200 block of Golden Sky Court: Someone stole a beige 1983 Buick LeSabre Saturday.

9600 block of Basket Ring Road: Someone stole a maroon 1989 Dodge Spirit overnight Sunday.

6000 block of Foreland Garth: A hitch-hiker stole a motorist's maroon 1988 Plymouth Vista Monday after the two stopped at a gas station.


7500 block of U.S. 1: A man tried to steal a 1986 Chevy Iroc Z Saturday night by smashing the steering column. A witness saw the suspect and frightened him off.


7000 block of Ducketts Lane: Someone stole a yellow 1988 Honda Prelude Thursday.

Ellicott City:

9300 block of U.S. 40: Someone stole a gray 1982 Pontiac Firebird Thursday or Friday.

11600 block of Cedar Line Court: Someone smashed the rear window

and activated an alarm. A pillow case was found missing.


9300 Somersby Court: Someone entered a vacant town house and stole a range and a refrigerator sometime between Friday and Monday.

4500 block of McKendree Road: Someone stole a lawn mower from a shed between November and April 17.
