General Motors back in the black

GM posted its first quarterly profit in nearly two years yesterday, showing that a drastic plan to close plants and cut tens of thousands of workers is starting to pay off.

The $179 million profit comes at a crucial time for the auto giant, which racked up the biggest loss in U.S. corporate history last year.
