Mclean Goes To Calif.

SERVICE NOTES

April 26, 1992

ANNAPOLIS — Marine 2nd Lt. Charles A. McLean, who graduated from St. Mary's HighSchool in 1987, recently reported for duty with the 3rd Assault Amphibious Battalion, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He is a 1991 graduate of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., who joined the Marine Corps that same year.

PRIVATES FINISH TRAINING

Army National Guard Pvt. Thomas D. Wilkinson and Regular Army Pvt. Michael C. Arrington, have completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Wilkinson is a 1988 graduate of Annapolis Senior High School. Arrington graduated from ASHS in 1991.

DAVIS RETURNS TO SCOTLAND

Seaman Recruit Michele D. Davis recently returned aboard the submarine tender USS Simon Lake, to its home port in Holy Loch, Scotland, from the NATO multinational exercise "Teamwork 92."

She joined the Navy last year.

STINARD COMPLETES COURSE

Airman David P. Stinard Jr. has completed the airlift and environmental systems specialist course at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, Ill.

While there, he learned the principles of operation and trouble-shooting of typical aircraft electro-environmental systems.

He is a 1991 graduate of Broadneck High School.

ATHEY RETURNS FROM TRAINING

Marine 1st Sgt. Alvin S. Athey, a 1973 graduate of Annapolis High School, recently returnedfrom a monthlong training exercise with his unit, the 3rd Battalion,3rd Marines, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, at the Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii.

He joined the Marine Corps in April 1973.

KANE EARNS NAVY MEDAL

Navy Lt. j.g. Karen B. Kane recently earned the Navy Achievement Medal for the standardized physical fitness program she developed. It included the training of student referees and the development of rule books.

Kane is stationed at the Fleet Surveillance Support Command, Chesapeake, Va. She is a 1989 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who joined the Navy in 1985.

HOFFMAN COMPLETES TRAINING

Marine Pvt. Richard G. Hoffmanrecently completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, S.C.

He is a 1991 graduate of Severna Park Senior High School.

ANKENY RETURNS TO BASE

DATELINE: CROFTON

Marine Cpl. David P. Ankeny recently returned with his unit, the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, to base at Camp Lejeune, N.C., after a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf.

Ankeny joined the Marine Corps in 1988.

Pvt. Paul T. Robinson, a 1988 graduate of South River High School, has completed basic training at FortJackson, S.C.

CANTWELL BACK FROM GULF

Navy Lt. Michael T. Cantwell recently returned from a six-month Persian Gulf deployment with theamphibious transport dock USS Nashville to the home port in Norfolk,Va.

A 1982 graduate of Severna Park High School, Cantwell joined the Navy in 1987.

HAUSER COMPLETE TRAINING

Airman Paul E. Hauser has completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Heis a 1988 graduate of South River High School.

RYDER RECEIVES MEDAL

Staff Sgt. Ronald L. Ryder has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

He is a flight platoon sergeant at Fort Bragg, N.C.,and a 1984 graduate of South River High School in Edgewater.

LOGAN GRADUATES

DATELINE: GAMBRILLS

Airman Alexander L. Logan has graduated from the personnel specialist course at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss.

He is a 1991 graduate of Arundel Senior High School.

O'BRIEN AT SEA

Navy Lt. Cmdr Eugene J. O'Brien, a 1974 graduate of Arundel Senior High, is now in the Mediterranean aboard the dock landing ship USS Whidby Island, based in Norfolk, Va., during a six-month deployment.

He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1974 and joined the fleet that summer.

KALWA REPORTS FOR DUTY

DATELINE: GLEN BURNIE

Marine Pfc. Jeffrey J. Kalwa has reported for duty with the 3rdBattalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Kalwa, a 1988 graduate of Glen Burnie Senior High School, joined theMarines in January, 1991.

PRIVATES COMPLETE COURSE

Army Privates DeWayne G. Medley and Kenneth W. Ridge have completed their training at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Medly graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1991. Ridge graduated from Northeast High School in 1989.

BELMORE REENLISTS

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory W. Belmore recently reenlisted for six years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, home ported in Mayport, Fla.

He joined the Navy in 1978.

HICKSON GRADUATES

Air National Guardsman Johnny M. Hickson has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

He is a 1987 graduate of Glen Burnie Senior High School.

ARJONA RETURNS WITH UNIT
