April 24, 1992

Broadneck senior Tim Collins, the 800-meter indoor track county champion, accepted a full-tuition scholarship to run cross country at Western Maryland College yesterday.

Collins is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar semifinalist and has maintained a 3.9 grade-point average at Broadneck. As a captain of the Bruins' cross country team, Collinswas third in the county, regional and state meets. A baseball tri-captain, he bats .381 with seven RBI.

At Western Maryland, Collins will major in either economics or political science while running cross country and perhaps playing baseball in the spring.

"Tim's grades really helped," said his father, Joseph, adding that Tim turned down partial scholarships to Franklin and Marshall and Lebanon College -- two Pennsylvania schools.
