Vacant rowhouses destroyed by fire

April 21, 1992

A one-alarm fire today extensively burned five vacant rowhouses in East Baltimore, and fire officials have recommended they be razed.

Firefighters were called to the buildings in the 1600 block of Ellsworth St. about 7:39 a.m. and fought the blaze until it was contained shortly after 9 a.m.

Joseph Herbert, a neighbor, said the buildings have been vacant for at least 10 years. The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
