Sentencing innovations

It's your call

April 21, 1992

Most callers to SUNDIAL approve of a Tennessee judge's unconventional sentences that allow victims of burglaries to go to the burglar's house and take away goods equal to the value of their losses. Of 274 callers, 214, or 78 percent, say there should be such sentences in Maryland, while 60 callers (21 percent) disagree.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
