Airman Ronald R. Ellis, son of Gilbert S. Ellis of Columbia, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the organization and customs of the Air Force and received instruction in humanrelations.

FENNELL BACK IN N.C.
Marine 1st Lt. David A. Fennell, son of Bettye and Frank Fennell of Columbia, recently returned with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to Camp Lejeune, N.C., following a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf.
Fennell, a 1982 graduate of Centennial High School, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1987.
MATHENY ENDS SCHOOL
Navy Hospitalman Ronald W. Matheny, son of LindaWojciechowski of Laurel, recently graduated from Field Medical Service School.
Matheny is a 1990 graduate of Atholton High School.
COOKE, MCFARLANE TRAINED
Navy Seaman Recruits Michael S. Cooke, son of Douglas Cooke of Mount Airy, and Iain A. McFarlane, son of Alberta J. McFarlane of Columbia, completed basic training in Orlando, Fla.
Navy Seaman Mary S. McCarty, daughter of Michael L. McCarty of Mount Airy, received a letter of commendation for superior performance of duty while assigned at Naval Station, Norfolk, Va.
McCarty joined the Navy in July 1990.
Capt. Patrick P. Ludford, a 1982 graduate of Centennial High School, has graduated from the Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.
The captain is a weather officer at Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu.
GINGCO IN PERSIAN GULF
Navy Airman Rodger J. Gingco, son of Rodelio and Geraldine Gingco of Ellicott City, is currently in the Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS America, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.
Gingco joined the Navy in April 1990.
WHITESIDE ENDS COURSE
Pvt. James A. Whiteside, son of Thomas and JoAnnWhiteside of Sykesville, has graduated from the aircraft powertrain repairer course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va.
The course provided instruction for students to do specialty maintenance on the aircraft powertrain and equipment.
DUGAN TRAINS IN S.C.
Marine Pvt. Eric M. Dugan, a 1991 graduate of Oakland Mills High School, completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.
All recruits participated in a physical conditioning program and demonstrated proficiency in a variety of military skills including first aid, rifle marksmanship andclose-order drill.

Navy Ensign Joseph K. Burns, son of Yvonne Burns of Ellicott City, reported for duty aboard the submarine USS Memphis, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.
He joined the Navy in May 1990.

Marine Lance Cpl. Mark T. Thurston, son of Peggy L. Merson of Woodbine, is serving in the Mediterranean with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Thurston is a 1988 graduate of Glenelg High School.

Pvt. Craig S. Yerger, the former ward of Kathleen P. Saunders of Ellicott City, has finished training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
Yerger is a 1990 graduate of Mount Hebron High School.
